How to create a healthy team culture

“Unless you are a hermit, you need to be part of a team” Charlie Gladstone, Do Team.

A healthy team culture generally stems from good communication. Got a problem? Knowing that you can discuss this with someone means that the issue can be addressed. If your policies in place, then communication can ensure action and resolution. It’s not always easy, appropriate, or best practice for a manager or employer to be the only listening ear. In some circumstances, a third, independent party can act as a mediator.

Our HR service offers just that – it’s an alternative, impartial line of communication. We can act as a mediator with a calming presence at these meetings or an independent place to turn if needed.

Many of our clients find that having a third-party HR service allows them to step away from the nitty gritty and perhaps uncomfortable conversations – a business owner is great at their job or speciality, but not an expert in other departments like HR. Receiving a factual summary of the situation from a HR professional allows them to adopt a calm and collection response and resolution.

There are other ways to offer an alternative place for employees to air issues aside from their manager (or the business owner)  – EAP – Employee Assistance Program, which is a work-based intervention program designed to assist employees in resolving personal problems that may be adversely affecting the employee’s performance.

Most of all it’s about getting the foundations of a team right in the first place, and this is where we can advise you on better communication, choosing the right people, encouraging ideas, creating an environment based on trust, and most of all nurturing people’s skills.
